2025 AWP Conference:Roxane Gay – Author, Cultural Critic, and Feminist Voice

Highlighting the event, Roxane Gay—internationally acclaimed author and cultural critic—delivers insights on feminism, social justice, and contemporary culture. Known for her sharp wit and candid voice, Gay challenges conventional narratives and sparks meaningful dialogue.

Her essay collection Bad Feminist is considered a defining work of modern feminism, praised as “trailblazing” by NPR and Salon. Her debut novel An Untamed State was longlisted for the Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize, and her memoir Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body was lauded by The New York Times as “intellectually rigorous and deeply moving.”

The 2022 U.S. Book Show brought together an expansive program of keynotes, editorial panels, author interviews, and specialized tracks for library services, bookselling, international rights, and comics/graphic novels.  Attendees gained valuable insights into themes such as the future of libraries in a post-pandemic era, the evolution of digital book marketing (including TikTok’s impact), and the global channels of rights and publishing across regions. 

Special features included the “Libraries Are Essential” series highlighting libraries as cultural and democratic pillars, and “Editors’ Picks” panels showcasing Fall 2022 titles selected by industry editors, offering attendees an insider look at upcoming titles and markets.  Exhibits, networking sessions and numerous breakout tracks provided a rich environment for publishers, authors, agents and booksellers to connect, explore rights opportunities and discover emerging voices.
